After receiving a 911 call one evening from the home of a woman who had a significant history of domestic violence, with her being the victim, we responded but got no answer at the door. Because it was summer time, the windows were open and the stereo was turned up loud. It became apparent that all was well, as we could hear the woman and her new boyfriend talking in an upstairs bedroom. Partly because of diligence and partly because there have been quite a few mis-dials from the house, we continued to try to make contact. Between blowing our traffic whistels to sounding the sirens on two cruisers, there was no response other than the stereo being turned up louder. Fortunately, the stereo was on a radio station and not a record or cd. There was a pause for station identification and a quick call was made to information to get the phone number for the radio station.

The DJ sounded somewhat reluctant to entertain a request that he announce over the air the woman's name and that the police need her to come downstairs, but we convinced him that this was a bona fide police investigation and he agreed. As soon as the announcement was made, and we heard it loud and clear, the stereo got shut off and we got a response from the woman. She denied hearing her name, but ultimately, we made sure that she was okay. It was another mis-dial.

I can see how that might be a bit embarrassing for the woman but I'd think she would be thankful and glad to know you went to those lengths to make sure she was safe!! I know I would be!! Better safe than sorry! Hopefully there are no more calls there but maybe she won't play her radio so loud from now on either :)

Be Safe...
