There were seventy-two officers from a total of eight local, state, and federal agencies that were killed on the morning of September 11, 2001 by the terrorists. Seventy-one of the law enforcement officers were killed at the World Trade Center. One law enforcement officer was killed in the third hijacked plane that crashed into a field in rural Pennsylvania.
